Stuck in Your Career? You Are More than just Your Rank and Title

In a recent interview with a 22-year old internet entrepreneur (Episode 22 of the HIGHER! Career Podcast), we learnt an important lesson:

You don't have to be the world's greatest expert at something to be of value to somebody else. Neither do you have to have formal training to be of service. Let us explain: 

Francesca had a gap year in between her undergrad in biology and her masters. She, brilliantly, decided to fill it with something utterly worthwhile. She recognised that she had a natural knack for helping others realise their potential, and followed that passion to launch an online business focusing on helping coaches launch their own. From scratch. Everything she knows she found out for herself. Through diligence, hard work, experimentation, failures, successes, refinement. No formal training, just a mission, willpower and the willingness to plunge into the unknown beyond fear and doubt. And yes: The Boss Queen Academy is profitable.

Here is why what she did is so inspiring:

  • Information is more readily available than ever. You can learn anything, just by opening google and practice, practice, practice.

  • In an unsteady economy and job market in constant flux, she has created an income stream for herself that she controls, a second leg to stand on beyond her formal university track.

  • She demonstrates to that same job market what incredible entrepreneurial spirit she possesses, a valuable asset you nowadays find in almost every job description.

  • She shows us that even if we know just 10% more than someone else, that someone can benefit from our knowledge and is willing to pay for it.
