We created the HIGHER! Career Podcast to equip career starters, career transitioners and professionals everywhere with the skills and perspective to have an easier time at succeeding in their 9-5. Be that as an employee, an entrepreneur, a side-hustler or volunteer.
But: we have an ulterior motive. We want people to assume their place as leaders. And not just leaders in office hierarchies, but leaders of thought. While every organisation, every employer, every start-up is unique, there is a bewildering level of uniformity in the steps one has to take to control one's career progression. We often speak of it as "the language of the job market".
Strangely, this language remains a mystery to many, a skill that can only be learnt through spending decades in its grasps. We think that this is wasted time. We need leaders to emerge faster, stronger, irrespective of rank and title. We need people to bring their values to work, and drive change in the places where they work. To help organisations evolve. To help them contribute to the greater good, be it on a social or environmental level (or the massive interface these two domains have). That is what the HIGHER! Career Podcast aspires to achieve.
Beautiful things can happen with greater mastery of one's career journey. With more control over ever-increasing workloads, being pressed for time to get things done, having to stick with jobs that don't make us come alive because we have mortgages to pay and mouths to feed. Freeing up some mental capacity by taking the power back will let you pursue dreams we hope we all share.

Understanding the nuances of office politics and career advancement within your organisation will free your mind do contribute to something greater than your employer's fortune and your pay-check. Launch an employee resource group to alert your organisation to unconscious biases towards minorities. Organise clean-up days. Advocate for a plastic-free canteen. Inspire your company to greater supply chain responsibility. Your children, dog, friends and family will thank you.
