My Start-up Experience
Start-ups are dynamic, fast-moving and operate in the type of complexity that boggles the mind of the trained corporate communications person. Where my approach to communications, digital marketing and reputation management is generally holistic and structured, working in a Start-up required a far greater degree of agility and a mindset we’d style “pragmatically beautiful” - perfect where you can, but never at the expense of speed. This is a world of big dreams, fundraising running in parallel with brand building around a product or service and organisational structures having to be built by those few folks also running their own functions. It feels a bit like putting wings on a plane that is already in the air, only that nobody has an engineering degree. The keys: collaboration and trust.
